Because I am no good at parties I equate them with masks, superficial surface things, glitter, pretense and unhappiness. I also think of a painting on canvas as a flat image stretched over the void, a distraction from the blackness. Therefore, each of these four works could be seen as a representation of the two-dimensionality of both the painted image and the party itself.

Alternatively, I could just say I was having fun.
