Fence and Two Joggers

66 x 56 cms 2011

Commissioned as a Birthday Gift

The person who commissioned this work gave me a free choice of subject, so I started from a pair of trees on a hillside up above Appila Creek and a bound-up fencepost on a nearby property. Initially, there was a dropper to the left but, having spent some more time up in the Flinders Ranges, revisiting the sheepyards' termite-ridden posts down Glass Gorge near Blinman I used this fragile skeleton instead. It was a beautiful day and every passing tourist, seeing my car parked and me taking photos, came over to join in but found no 'heritage' amongst the weeds.

There are two layers of fencing wire - common in old fences and, whilst I have often made up the fence based on standard proportions, this time I worked from two real fences, in the hope that the dynamic would be more convincing.

The joggers were added quite late on, one I photographed in Port Adelaide but the other is a cheat and comes from Google Images. Like the previous painting with the transparent figures, the joggers are indefinite, running briefly through a solid landscape.

As this was commissioned for a birthday, the price is left out.

**There are more notes on the joggers in the Compare Use of Joggers page and the fence in the Fences page.
