Fence and Skull
107 x 107 cms  2007
SOLD for $7900

My husband, Ken, found the skull in a neighbour's paddock. The fence is abandoned in the middle of a ploughed paddock between here and Mannum. I have already used, it in the distance, in Gates (2006) and Mud, Gate and Gibbet (2004).

But, for the skull, I wanted the twisted tangled mess of it, so I bit the bullet and painted all that wire. As I also changed the sky twice and the hill and wheat once, the wire got repainted over and over again.

The big post was also a major problem. It started as the sort of round post I have already used several times, but the painting demanded it be square after which the whole thing died the brown death.

So, as nothing was getting resolved, I slapped neat Indian Red and graffiti all over it, and that fixed it.

The skull was a joy to paint. All the curves blend into, round and under themselves - it's the sort of work where you suddenly look  up and 4 hours has gone by and you've enjoyed every second of it.

**There are more notes on the fence on the Compare Fences Page.
