The motivation for doing this work is described in the Compare Laughing Clowns Page, but the bit I enjoyed most was the two people dressed as clowns. I had made a trip to the Royal Adelaide Show, with a camera but without a child and came back with a wealth of images, but I was never able to repeat the experience. In Adelaide, everything was exactly the same the following year, and local shows were either cold or wet and nobody ever appeared to be enjoying themselves anywhere. I painted this while still in a flush of enthusiasm from my successful show, as Colin (director of Art Images) had asked for 2 paintings for his New Year show, and I truly believed I had the time to just give him this, and the Truck approaching a Bend, which he immediately sold. But the enthusiasm gradually dwindled during the year until, by the following Christmas, it had disappeared altogether. A number of the paintings done during that period have been omitted from this site. They were truly dreadful. **There are more notes on the arm on the Compare Use of Arm Page. |
