Male Nude No 2
63 x 52 cms 1997
For Sale from my Studio
Although nobody liked Male Nude No 1 I had a very
strong urge to do it again and I do have a real problem in that I would
like to continue down this path but simply can't afford to. When this
work was shown I was told that nobody took any interest in it at all.
I like the idea of planes going back behind the picture surface and being blocked, with little squares of detail and the long, narrow strip down each side. I was aiming at a sort of enclosed and threatening silence during which an eddy of leaves swirls up and the nude male approaches. The carpet is a thick, gobby blood red.
Not what you'd want your wall, I guess. And then you're back into the whole question, why do you paint anyway?
