I don't do portraits of people, but dogs are different. Mishka belonged to the friend of a neighbour and she looked exactly like that - kind, solid and dependable. The problem wasn't the dog but the background, which eventually resolved itself around their pool and the owner's lovely red dress.

I had great fun painting it and even more fun presenting it to the owner, who was delighted.
