The Nude in Art
90 x 83 cms 1997
SOLD in 2007 for $2600
There was a house in Middleton, SA, which had a garden full of statues and I wanted to paint it. This is it.
When it didn't quite work I added all the flim-flammery and had some fun.
It was suggested, however, that I take it to the Royal South Australian Society for the Arts, who were about to hold a group exhibition entitled Nudes, and join that august body, which I did. I exhibited with them for several years and even got made a Fellow (much to my family's amusement) but things died away when the majority of their exhibitions were to a theme and I'm simply no good at that. Nobody ever sold anything at the Society shows, anyway, so my work generally ended up gathering dust in gallery stockrooms.
Then, ten years later, a lovely lady in Melbourne saw it on my website and bought it. She made me so happy.
