The wooden post was lying by the side of a dirt road, part of an old fence that had been demolished and left to rot. The steel marker post was still firmly buried in solid clay, up to the first twist. A friend and I dug the wretched thing out with the bolt cutters and our fingernails (two old ladies, crouched by the side of the road, looking ridiculous). It is superb.

The base is cut from 16ml MDF board and is covered with a layer of thixotropic epoxy mixed with mud and grit from the paddock, painted with artists oil paint.

The wooden post, which has an extremely hard redgum  centre, is secured by 4 very long screws up though the base and the end of the steel post has been modified into a bracket which is bolted into routed-out recesses in the MDF board.

The posts are presented so that their essential presence is strengthened both by their interaction with each other and their separation by the strongly textured and coloured base.
