Truck and Old Woman
107 x 107cms  2006
SOLD for $6600

This wonderful truck was parked on top of a hill, so I could take detailed shots of the mudflaps, diff, air brakes etc. It was parked right alongside yet another tar truck, but I couldn't face doing all that black again.

The truck could have sat there, alone, in the middle of the canvas but I couldn't resist the figure, after which I was told that, of course, I was copying Jeffrey Smart and I wasn't!

It was a peculiar work to do. Generally, there are huge areas of a painting that are changed; lighter, darker, a line different here or there, frequently the entire sky or background gets obliterated and started again, until it all settles down in its right place on the canvas, and then I can finish it. It's finished, when I feel shut out from it and the energy to continue totally vanishes.

This one shut me out from the very first day, so I really struggled to find any motivation at all (money!!), but I plodded on and eventually came out the other end.
