Landscape with Man Running
122 x 106 cms 1997
Whilst looking for pictures of women running I found this photo of a cross country runner who was so inwardly focused and so balanced that I wanted to put him right in the middle of a composition of the Mount Lofty Ranges, which are also inwardly focused and balanced .
I was still thinking around the concept of a 'picture' in relation to the whole canvas so, again, I did a picture of a picture. It is a useful device, as it is possible to enclose the composition without using trees, Stobie poles, etc and, also, balance the weight of it with a couple of strong horizontal stripes across the bottom.
**There are more notes on the man running on the Compare Man Running Page and a comparison of my treatment of the Mount Lofty Ranges on the Compare Hills Page.
