This painting was also commissioned by Wilson Vineyards (see the notes on
Vines in Autumn) and
was a technically much more difficult piece, getting all those posts and
vine trunks right. It was based on an actual view across his vineyard
though the Stobie pole got moved across a bit.
I had to wait a while to start this painting, until bud-burst, to get the right leaf shape and that lovely fresh first green. The mud, however, as in the 'Autumn' painting was left uncharacteristically bare in order to help the illusion of space under and through the vines.
